Propionate is naturally produced by the bacteria in our gut and critically important for regulating and controlling our immune system, and is often referred to as a \u201cpost-biotic\u201d. MS is an immunological disease in which propionate levels are typically reduced, caused by disturbances in the gut bacteria. Evidence shows that this deficiency may contribute to disease progression.<\/span><\/p>

CEVENTRIX\u2122 is given to increase propionate levels in the gut towards more healthy levels. A recent human study demonstrates that propionate correction can help manage the disease*. Propionate is naturally produced by our gut bacteria from processing of certain fibres. This is the natural form of most of the propionate in humans. Propionate can also be found in some dairy products and a small amount may be added to meat, cheese, and bread products to keep them fresh.<\/span><\/p>

Is propionate safe?<\/b><\/h4>

Propionate is considered as safe to use as a food additive by both the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) and by the US FDA. In a clinical trial with people with MS, no serious adverse events were reported with 3 years of use.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
